United We Chalk

Great Rivers United Way is excited to announce an all new community event we’re calling “United We Chalk.” Event proceeds will support 52 local non-profit programs.

Come to watch, or come to win! People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate solo or in teams of up to five. More than$1,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs via voting at the event and online.

Theme
All entries are required to incorporate our 2021-22 campaign theme, “Imagine.” All final pieces must be family-friendly and appropriate for public consumption.

Registration Deadline & Walk-ups
Pre-registration will close on Wednesday, September 22, at 4:30 p.m. Any remaining spaces will be available at the event on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:00 a.m. Registration fees will increase day-of.

Registration includes:

• 1 box of Crayola 48-count Washable Sidewalk Chalk
  • You are welcome to bring/supplement with your own supplies (must be non-permanent)
• 21′ 10″ x 11′ 4″ paved space
  • Placement is first-come, first served the morning of the event
  • You do not need to fill your entire space, but this is the maximum space given to every individual/team
• Bottled drinking water

Additional/suggested items
Artists are welcome to bring additional materials with them, including non-permanent art supplies, brushes, sponges, buckets, etc. Tarps are recommended to cover your piece in case of pop-up showers. Canopies for shade are welcome if smaller than 12′ x 12′.

Timing
The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. You may arrive and start chalking any time after 8:00, but your piece must be finished by 5:00. Location/spaces are first-come, first served.

Rain Plan
In the event of inclement weather, we will make the decision to move the event to an alternative location (TBD) by Thursday, September 23. This decision will be communicated to registrants via email and GRUW’s social media channels. Participants will be supplied with chalk and a wooden canvas prepped with chalkboard paint, and should complete their piece on site by 5:00 p.m.

Voting
Winners will be determined by public vote in person during and online after the event. One dollar = one vote. Online voting will close Tuesday, September 28, at 5:00 p.m., and winners will be announced on Wednesday, September 29, at 12:00 p.m. Great Rivers United Way will promote online voting via local news outlets and our social media accounts, and teams are encouraged to share their voting pages with their families and friends to increase their chances of winning.
