Are you searching for a way to work with persons who've experienced trauma?

Are you interested in being a source of support for victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence? Consider becoming an on-call Volunteer Advocate responding to patients who present to our La Crosse campus Emergency Room during weekend or overnight hours. No previous experience is necessary. We will provide extensive training!

Volunteer Advocates work in conjunction with SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurses, Emergency Room nurses, social workers, and providers to enable the patient to cope with an assault and make decisions about collection of forensic evidence, safety planning, and reporting to law enforcement.

We are currently seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to volunteer with our Trempealeau County Outreach Program. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us connect with the community, raise awareness, and build strong partnerships that expand our reach and impact.

Some of the ways volunteers can support our work include:

·         Facilitating or attending community meetings to foster partnerships and promote our mission

Be a behind the scenes hero!!

Volunteers assist with loading/unloading vehicles, sorting, cleaning, checking in of items, and other warehouse projects. Currently we're looking for volunteers to assist in the mornings of Mondays, and/or Thursdays from 9am until 12pm as well as volunteers for on-call Monday to Friday from 9am until 12pm. On-Call volunteers would be periodically for when our regular volunteers during that shift will be gone.

Help fill in when other drivers are unavailable. This is a great way to help without committing to a schedule. We have a refrigerated truck (no CDL needed) and a transit van. Routes include regular pick ups from donors and deliveries to our partner agencies. Orientation and training will be provided.

Our drivers are essential to the day-to-day operations of The Hunger Task Force. Every day, we have drivers go to different businesses to pick up food from generous donors and bring it back to the warehouse.

We're looking for volunteers to assist with the distribution on Senior Stockboxes. This program provides non-perishable food items and fresh produce to over 400seniors in our community.

Bluff Country Family Resources, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) dedicated to providing high-quality services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Houston County, MN, and surrounding communities. We began as Houston County Women's Resources in 1984. Information about our specific program services is located on the program’s website at bluffcountry.org.

Our mission at BCFR is to provide community education and non-judgmental, confidential crisis intervention, advocacy, support, and resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and those experiencing housing insecurity due to violence.

Board Member Responsibilities

Serve a minimum of one (2) two-year term on the Board. After the initial two-year term, members have the option to re-commit to their directorship on a year-by-year basis for up to a total of 6 years. 

Attend all board meetings. 

Dedicate 1-2 hours of volunteer time per month to BCFR as a director, 3-6 hours per month for executive committee members. 

Review executive director performance and compensation on an annual basis. 

The Board of Directors has two subcommittees. Each board member is expected to participate in at least one (1) of these subcommittees. Subcommittees should meet at least once between board meetings and be prepared to present updates.

Stay informed about board matters, come prepared for meetings, review and comment on minutes and reports, review and approve policies, and discuss and vote on issues that affect the organization.

Do you love to garden? Aptiv is seeking volunteers to assist in planting, weeding and harvesting for the area Community Garden at Aptiv. This garden is open to the community and was placed in partnership with the City of La Crosse to provide fresh produce to the surrounding community. Volunteers who may not have space to garden at their own home can come and help out and make great connections with others who love gardening. Active gardening happens from April through October.

The Runaway Homeless Youth Mediation and Emergency Services (RHYMES) Youth Shelter is seeking volunteers and interns to serve runaway and homeless youth ages 12-17. Volunteers may directly serve youth, or may contribute to shelter operations (yard work, technology assistance, maintenance, etc.). SUMMER 2025 MOWING SEASON - La Crescent Seniors Need You!

You (or your team of volunteers) are matched with a senior in La Crescent to "adopt" their lawn for the mowing season. This includes mowing once every week or so - more when it's growing fast, and often fewer than 2 x per month during late July/August. Times are flexible based on your schedule and mowing generally takes less than an hour to complete. Often this volunteer experience includes being a friendly visitor for the senior as well. This is a great opportunity to get quality volunteer experience, engage with others, and make a big difference for our older community members! (plus, free exercise in the process!)

Volunteers perform a variety of tasks; sorting, stocking, repackaging, receiving deliveries, general maintenance, working one on one with clients, assembling food packages, assisting patrons during shopping, and more. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

There are a limited number of shorter volunteer hours opportunities available. If you need a different time frame for volunteering due to work or school, please plan a minimum of three weeks in advance.

The Thrift Store serves a dual role in our mission.  People in need can get vouchers to get the items that they need, whether it be clothes, shoes or items to help set up their new home.  When items sell to the public, that money goes back into our mission to feed and shelter individuals in need. 

Many hands make light work.  We get loads of donations in every single day at The Salvation Army Thrift Store.  We need lots of help to get through them and make them ready for the sales floor. Help sort and organize, clear out and reshelve items, clean, and hang out with a great staff team! Opportunities are flexible during these times, Monday–Friday, 9am-6pm or Saturday, 9am-5pm.

 You can choose your volunteer dates and times! After an approved application, you can volunteer whenever you'd like, no scheduling needed. Thanks for your help!

Our shelter meal program provides 3 meals a day to our residents in house, as well as a canteen window option for community members! Help us serve meals to our residents!

The Friends of Wildcat Mountain State Park are seeking individuals with marketing, tech, data and computer skills to assist us with park promotions and projects including the following:

Got spring fever?  Get out and help us protect the pretty wildflowers at Wildcat Mountain State Park by assisting with surveillance and removal of invasive species like this garlic mustard plant growing next to a beautiful bloodroot flower.  This effort will start as soon as the snow melts and continue into early June.  No experience is needed, just a willingness to learn, hike in some beautiful natural areas and pay close attention to the plants as spring emerges around you.  Times are flexible.  You will need to be prepared to hike off trail.

We are looking for a person to come in and share your talent on the piano or another instrument for our memory care unit. If you are looking to volunteer in the evening or weekend to share your talent please call us. 

The Circles of Support program seeks to:

Each circle consists of 3 to 5 persons.  Training and orientation is required. A volunteer commits to meeting with the circle for 6 months, while the frequency of meetings could change depending on the needs of the core member.

We hope to find energetic, friendly, folks from all walks of life to join us in serving the community! Duties include assisting clients in shopping the pantry, bagging groceries, stocking shelves and freezers as well as getting food to client's vehicles. 

The pantry is open Monday's and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. 

HorseSense is looking for volunteers to assist in our adaptive horseback riding lessons this spring, summer, and fall! No experience is required but volunteers must be able to walk and be on their feet for extended periods of time and be okay walking in sand.  Volunteers provide direct support to our riders, many if whom have a diagnosis of some kind and often require physical support.  Lessons are Monday-Thursday at 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm each evening. We do ask volunteers to commit to the same day/time(s) for a full session to ensure consistency for our riders.  Occasional absences are to be expected.  The 2025 session dates are as follows:

Spring: March 10th-May 16th 

Summer: June 2nd - August 22nd

Fall: September 8th - November 17th

Our needs have been met for the spring but we continue to look for support for the summer and fall.  Individuals who can not volunteer weekly for a full session are encouraged to join our sub list!  Please reach out for additional information.

The STAR Association offers a variety of Specialized Exercise Programs that provide modifications and adaptations for participants with a variety of disorders and diseases.

STAR has a need for 1:1 mentors for participants who need extra assistance during programs. Volunteers will assist with set up and clean up of the program. No prior experience with adaptive physical activity is required. We will train you.

Our volunteers may perform some of the following services to enrich the lives of our patient:

The Aging & Disability Resource Center is looking for volunteers at our La Crosse meal sites to help package meals, serve meals and also deliver noon meals to elderly in our community. Routes needed are North La Crosse, French Island and southside of La Crosse. 

Delivery shifts range from 10:15am-12pm and routes average 10 miles. (usually take around 1 hour) By becoming a volunteer of our home delivered meal program you deliver more than just a hot meal. It is also a welfare check on our seniors. 

We have a variety of days and locations available in La Crosse. Flexible schedule and mileage reimbursement available. 

If you prefer not to deliver meals, we are also in need of volunteers to help package the meals for our homebound participants at the meal sites. 

Currently we are in need at Holmen meal sites.  Shift range from 10am until 12:30pm for onsite help and 11am-11:45am for delivering the meals.   

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Recreation Therapy Department with afternoon programs on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month. Volunteers are not required to do every afternoon program that is scheduled but can choose which dates work best for them. These programs take place from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for both the Saturday and Sunday availabilities. Dates throughout the month do very and do not take place every Saturday and Sunday. A short orientation process is required before volunteering can begin.

Handcraft volunteers knit, sew, and crochet in groups or at home during their free time. Items created are donated to provide help to those in need within the community. Handcrafted goods include hats, mittens, quilts, wheelchair or walker bags, baby layettes, and much more. Handcraft group "Knotty Knitters" meets every Wednesday from 8am-11am at the RSVP Office in La Crosse. NOTE: Must be 55+ to volunteer with RSVP.

We are looking for volunteers 55 and better to join our amazing group of handymen and women! The Handyman program is designed to provide fix-it services and home repair for individuals in the community. Our volunteers donate their time and skills at no charge. Volunteers are reimbursed for their mileage and any items needed to buy for repairs. 

All that is required is for the individuals requesting the service be 55 or better, disabled or a veteran and to provide or pay for the materials that are needed for the repairs

The Coulee Region Retired Senior Volunteering Program (RSVP) is looking for individuals 55 and better to help drive older adults or adults with disabilities to their appointments, grocery shopping, etc. Drivers are reimbursed their mileage- can volunteer on a daily, weekly, or on call basis. We are in need of more volunteer drivers due to turning clients away each week. You choose the day/time you would like to volunteer.  Schedule is set a week in advance.

We are a door to door service and clients must be ambulatory. No wheelchairs.

Everybody Bikes UA is seeking volunteers who are willing to help refurbish donated bikes that are awarded to community-members after a brief training. We can work around your schedule.

Together with the GROW board, other interns, and volunteers you will lead an essential role in providing community nutrition education, along with assisting our program directors in garden education sessions and recipe demonstration, interns will also enhance their experiences when coordinating volunteers, overseeing garden maintenance, building relationships, evaluating programs, documenting, and community organizing.

TIME COMMITMENT:

Approximately 6-8 hrs/wk totaling a minimum of 90 hours for the semester. Some interns have taken this as an independent study and received credit. Nutrition programming and meetings can be planned around intern’s schedule as long as 5 hours a week are during elementary school hours (8am-3pm). Other requirements can be done throughout each week as you have time.

REQUIREMENTS:

Nutrition/Sustainability Education Interns will be responsible for assisting the program directors with garden classes, helping facilitate garden maintenance tasks and organization of produce getting from garden to cafeteria or classroom, and assisting with volunteer coordination; in addition to weekly meetings with your supervisor.

Our Recreation Therapy Department is looking for volunteers Monday through Friday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. During your volunteer time you would be assisting RT Staff with carrying out a program such as bingo, dice game, discussion games and more. You will also be helping transport residents to and from the programs and help with clean up afterwards.

CASA for Kids is solely focused on advocating for a child's best interest throughout the duration of their CHIPS (Child in Need of Protection & Services) case. Majority of the time, the child has already been placed out of home. Our advocates are trained and vetted before being sworn in as an Officer of the Court. Once their case assignment begins, they maintain a positive and consistent presence in the child's life. Their visits and observations are recorded and presented to the judge in an accurate and objective court report. All the while, gauging the child's best interest, needs, wants, additional resources/supports, providing insight and recommendations. 

The Marketing & Graphic Design intern is responsible for the research and production of creative and engaging visual content used in digital and print marketing. Products include logos, posters, newspaper ads, and other graphics.

The ideal intern is self-motivated, takes direction, and requires minimal supervision, can generate interesting, creative and original content, is willing to conduct research, is detail-oriented, has good grammar, and is willing to grow and learn.

This is a volunteer position, that may be redeemed for academic credit.
