Barberry Blast! Wildcat is hosting a work day from 10-4 on Friday 11/11 to attack a patch of invasive Japanese Barberry that has developed near one of our most popular trails, the Old Settler's Trail. All the work will be outdoors and off trail so dress warmly in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Barberry is thorned so leather gloves are needed but all other supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary - just a desire to make a difference!
Wildcat needs volunteers to help with surveillance for and treatment of invasive weeds in the park boundaries. The need is year round but our priorities change with the weather and the seasons. Efforts may include hiking park trails or paddling down the Kickapoo to look for new species of concern. In addition we spend time cutting, pulling or treating invasive plants and shrubs. Finally, we are also looking for individuals who can help us create informational materials to educate others about how invasive species affect our natural areas and can decimate the Wisconsin flora that we love. This need is ongoing so feel free to reach out to help at anytime; it is likely we have a battle ready for you!
