Volunteer: Safe Path Volunteers

PURPOSE:

To be on call for Safe Path and to respond in person to the EUCC (Emergency and Urgent Care Center) when paged to provide support and information to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Advocates work in conjunction with SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurses, EUCC nurses, social workers, and providers to enable the patient to make decisions about coping with an assault, collection of forensic evidence, safety planning and reporting assaults to police.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

The volunteer is required to keep confidential all information learned while working in the Safe Path Program.  The volunteer must possess good listening skills, sound judgment and must have the capacity to handle stressful situations.  Must be able to work well with diverse populations.  The volunteer must be able to come to the EUCC within 30 minutes during on-call times.  Volunteer must complete the Safe Path training before performing advocate duties.  Volunteers are requested to attend other Safe Path trainings and volunteer meetings to the best of their ability.

Volunteer: DART (Dependable and Resourceful Transport) Services Volunteer

DART Service Volunteer will provide consistent, invaluable service transporting and escorting patients, delivering items between departments, and other requested ancillary services, promoting a sense of welcome and caring service to our customers.  This service by volunteers will enable paid staff to remain on the units and in departments to perform professional duties, thus providing better care and service to our patients and visitors.

Volunteers must complete the required application and screening process, plus a transporter screening (assessment) for transporting wheelchair patients; also training for cart transportation.  This assignment requires a considerable amount of physical stamina, as volunteers do a great deal of walking.

The Dispatch/volunteer base: Hospital first floor in Patient Registration area; Service areas:  Primarily between 3rd, 7th and 9th nursing units in the Hospital and ancillary service areas such as Radiology, Rehab Services, etc.; also the Clinic, Cancer and Surgery Center, Professional Arts building, St. Ann building, and Occupational Health building.

DART Services are offered Monday thru Friday; 7:45 am – Noon; Noon – 4:00 pm; ideally, a team of 4 volunteers per shift.
