Who We Are

The Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration's land on St. Joseph Ridge, just outside of La Crosse, Wisconsin, serves as an educational model in the community. As stewards of the earth, students and volunteers of all ages help to work the greenhouse, garden, and orchard. We also invite students and volunteers to discover the wooded land and prairie.

How Volunteers Help

Our land offers a great location for educational tours and workshops. Fruit, vegetables, and flowers, and herbs produced supplement the dining services at St. Rose Convent and the Villa Saint Joseph. We also send produce to Sisters living in their own homes "off campus", and a couple of food pantries during peak season.

Our forested land and prairies offer tranquil walking paths and a healthy habitat for wildlife. Efforts to reduce invasive species on the property earned FSPA the 2019 Invader Crusader award. Please find additional land volunteer information within the links below...

Volunteers can help with garden or greenhouse efforts, planting, maintaining, harvesting and completing a growing season.

Volunteers may also assist in our orchard or on our new permaculture section of indigenous fruit and nut bushes of Wisconsin.

Volunteers may assist with woodland management, including support for our walnut plantation thinning, post harvest with brush clearing. We have opportunities to support prairie restoration sites and habitat restoration along our natural spring and small stream.
